Every weed aficionado craves exploring different marijuana strains at some point in their lives. The world of cannabis flowers is so diverse that hardly anybody says “weed is just weed” today.
With that in mind, we’d like to share with you our list of the 10 most popular marijuana strains at MyKush.ca.
These are the most popular flowers that our customers selected in 2019. Each variety carries a beautiful bouquet of aromas and flavors, with different effects that suit both medical and recreational users.
Some of these strains are very potent, with THC levels above 25%. If you’re just getting started with cannabis, we suggest that you take caution when trying them.
Care to join for a strain trip?
1. Pink Kush
Pink Kush is known for producing super strong body stone and having a sweet, delicate taste. As a 90/10 indica-dominant hybrid, this strain is certainly a good treat for the evening. The origins of Pink Kush are a bit uncertain, but it’s believed that the bud descends from the OG Kush family.
With THC levels around 20%, Pink Kush can pack a punch. The high begins with a twist of happy giggles, slowly transforming into a euphoric headspace, washing away stress and anxiety. As the effects continue to take hold, you’ll feel lightweight and utterly relax for the next few hours.
For medical patients, Pink Kush brings relief from chronic pain, migraines, and nausea. It also comes in handy for fighting stress, anxiety, and extreme nervousness.
Pink Kush is almost good enough to eat, with aromas heavily spiced up with sweet berries, vanilla, and floral notes, carrying these odors over to the flavor.
This strain is also relatively easy to grow, with plants producing generous yields while being resistant to common molds. The only downside to growing Pink Kush is that it takes 10 to 11 weeks for it to flower. However, your patience will be well rewarded with the aforementioned resinous yields.
2. Gorilla Glue #4
Also known as GG4, Gorilla Glue #4 is a sativa-dominant hybrid with a whopping THC content of 32% and only small amounts of CBD (around 0.1%).
This strain owes its name to the generous layer of sticky resin that accumulates on the scissors when trimming. However, this shouldn’t come to anyone’s surprise given GG4’s genetics — it’s the descendant of Sour Diesel, Chocolate Diesel, Sour Dubb, and Chem’s Sister. This amazing lineage has won Gorilla Glue #4 the 2014 Cannabis Cup in both Los Angeles and Michigan.
The aromas coming from GG4 are very strong and mostly redolent of diesel fumes, accentuated by notes of coffee and chocolate. While some of the aromas are also noticeable in the strain’s flavor, the smoke it produces is sweet and earthy — and it can make you cough like a goose.
The high from Gorilla Glue #4 is deeply relaxing, giving the user a full-body melt despite the dominance of Sativa traits. The body stone may result from the THC/CBD ratio, the terpene profile, and the synergy coming from the cannabinoids. The strong body buzz is accompanied by invigorating and uplifting effects in the head.
While not the best choice to kickstart the day, GG4 works great for late afternoons or when you just want to sit back and relax after a challenging day at work.
3. Black D.O.G.
Our third most popular marijuana strain, Black D.O.G. is an indica-heavy hybrid that originated in California’s Humboldt County. Bred by Humboldt Seed Organization, this strain is a result of crossing Emerald Headband with the delicious Blackberry Kush.
The THC levels sit at between 16–21%, so it’s a moderately potent strain considering the average THC content of today’s marijuana plants. When it comes to structure, Black D.O.G. has medium to large buds, with dense center typical to indica strains but with long feathery leaves that give it more of a sativa look.
A properly cured batch of Black D.O.G. gives off a woodsy, earthy aroma with distinct notes of fresh pine. If you sunk your nose deeper into the bag, the second whiff may pick up some fruity undertones, too. When smoked, Black D.O.G. burns with a refreshing smoke that leaves flavors of pine and citrus on the exhale.
Similar to other indica-dominant varieties, Black D.O.G. is a creeper and takes several minutes to come to its full potential. The high starts with a weird feeling of pressure around the forehead. As you become accustomed to this peculiar sensation, you may notice changes in sensory perception and cognition. Some slight visual and auditory distortions might also occur, creating a feeling of time dilation.
Medical cannabis patients use Black D.O.G. to combat insomnia, all kinds of aches and pains, and lower the intraocular pressure.
4. Papaya Punch
Papaya Punch is one of the most popular indica-dominant marijuana strains and tastes strongly of exotic fruits, mainly mango.
With a THC count between 20–25%, this flower sports some very classic indica body stone, usually leading to a strong couch-lock when consumed in high doses. Unlike typical indica strains, though, Papaya Punch isn’t a creeper and it hits heavily — numbing the whole body and inducing laziness.
Still, it comes with a fair share of cerebral effects, mostly providing users with a relaxed state of mind, mild to moderate euphoria, and a boost of creativity. Nonetheless, we recommend consuming Papaya Punch in the evening rather than adding it to your morning cup of coffee.
The heavy effects of Papaya Punch translate well to its medical properties. Patients use this strain to relieve insomnia, reduce nausea, and increase appetite. It’s also an invaluable strain for numbing out even the most severe of chronic pains.
5. Sour Tangie
Created by well-known cannabis breeders DNA Genetics, Sour Tangie is a sativa-dominant hybrid with two famous flowers — Sour diesel and Tangie. This strain carries a bold citrus flavor profile and is mostly about cerebral effects.
The THC content of Sour Tangie has been measured at between 15% and an unbelievable 30%. Depending on the batch you get your hands on in a dispensary, you might need to apply more caution to your smoking session in order to avoid potential side effects.
Sour Tangie grows larger than average buds that vary in shape depending on the phenotype. They can be either long and cylindrical or short and tapered, with a more fluffy sativa structure. A first waft of its flowers may pick up some citrus notes, followed by a strong diesel aroma. When combusted, Sour Tangie burns with an unsurprisingly sour yet smooth and easy smoke.
Like most sativa strains, Sour Tangie’s high hits relatively quickly, with a head rush around the temples. Once this weird sensation wears off, you’ll be immersed in a positive mindset accompanied by higher intensity of thought. It’s just the perfect strain for motivation and productivity, and the stimulation can linger for several hours.
6. Wedding Cake
Sometimes known as Pink Cookies, Wedding Cake is a strain with amazing genetics that provide it with a balanced high and a rich taste. It’s a cross between the notoriously famous Girl Scout Cookies and sour hybrid Cherry Pie, with THC levels ranging between 15–25%.
Wedding Cake is characterized by very large and colorful buds. The chunky, popcorn-like nuggets have a typical indica structure, with curling green-brown leaves around them. When properly cured, the buds produce damp and mossy aromas with a hint of citrus, but when broken up, they also release notes of spicy sandalwood.
The high from Wedding Cake kicks in relatively quickly, starting mainly in the head. You may experience more fast-paced thoughts, with a more acute perception of your surroundings. In the right settings, these changes may also induce feelings of euphoria. After about an hour into the high, the strain’s indica side starts to shine. Smokers may feel a pleasant heaviness, with warm sensations inside that are further accompanied by giggles and chattiness.
For medical users, the feelings of perceptiveness can prove helpful in fighting chronic stress and anxiety, depression, as well as migraines, chronic pain, and insomnia. It can also be a potent appetite stimulant for those suffering from eating disorders.
7. Love Potion #1
Love Potion #1 is a truly delightful strain that combines buzzy energy with a focused cerebral mind set. Staying true to its name, Love Potion #1 is also believed to be an aphrodisiac in the right settings. This uplifting bud is a cross between the mysterious G13 strain — allegedly bred by the US government — and the sativa landrace Colombian Gold. It’s one of the best strains for beginners, with THC levels measured at 8–18%.
Love Potion grows small-to-medium buds that are clustered together in almost spherical buds. It’s threaded through with amber-colored pistils and coated with a nice layer of trichomes that create a sticky surface on the flower.
Love Potion #1 gives off woodsy aromas that mix up with notes of pine and damp earth. You may also pick up some citrus hints and skunky-sweet pungency as you break the buds in your grinder.
The effects of Love Potion #1 are sweetly intoxicating, with a mild euphoria and cerebral stimulation. It’s a great strain for both physical and mental activities, but not limited to video games and exercises. Love Potion works great, especially in outdoor settings.
On the medical note, this strain is often used to relieve stress, attention deficit disorders, mood swings, and reduce inflammation.
8. Moby Dick
Moby Dick is a sativa-dominant hybrid. Its name stems from its massive yields, which can reach up to 1,5000 grams per square meter. The THC concentration, however, isn’t that high; with 20% of THC per dry mass, this strain is placed in the “moderately-potent” category. Moby Dick was bred by Dinafem Seeds, using a variety of Haze and White Widow as parents.
The effects of Moby Dick are highly psychoactive, due to relatively high levels of THCV (tetrahydrocannabivarin). It induces the feelings of strong euphoria and spacey happy buzz that can sometimes take the form of psychedelic sensations after a few more hits.
Some users report feeling creative and focused, although these effects begin to dissipate after about an hour, lingering for up to 2 hours. Although not as potent as the majority of our most popular marijuana strains, Moby Dick is a trippy flower and can elevate your appetite to the ceiling. The body high, in turn, eases mild aches and pains, so if your suffering from chronic pain, this one’s a keeper.
9. Blueberry Kush
Blueberry Kush is a mostly indica-dominant hybrid that grows large, dark green buds with a generous coating of trichomes on their surface. It’s known for its delicious blueberry taste and long-lasting powerful high. The effects of Blueberry Kush are marked by euphoric sensations and uplifted mood. The high later transforms into full-body relaxation that also stimulates the appetite and becomes sedating at higher doses.
Due to its indica-dominant nature, Blueberry Kush is excellent for natural pain relief and is actually considered one of the most potent strains in this category. Its powerful appetite-stimulating effects make it ideal for people struggling with nausea and anorexia.
Despite having 24% of THC per dry mass, it’s used to a lesser extent for stress and anxiety relief. In fact, if you have a low tolerance to THC or are sensitive to the psychoactive effects of this compound, its stress-relieving properties may backfire at you with higher anxiety, so it’s best to use it in moderation
10. Black Diamond
Black Diamond, often called “Black Diamond OG” or “Black Diamond OG Kush” is a clone-only strain that was bred in the Northern California to mostly serve medical purposes. The THC levels of Black Diamond range between 18–24%.
The buds are remarkably frosted with translucent trichomes indicative of the high THC content. They are also threaded through with long orange pistils shooting out of the dense nugs. Black Diamond’s aroma is particularly tempting, with notes of red wine accentuated by musky earth. The taste is similar to the aroma, often leaving the user’s throat dry.
Black Diamond is recommended as a nighttime smoke to fight insomnia and other forms of sleep deprivation. You can also use it to alleviate pain, muscle spasms, anxiety, nausea, and lack of appetite. If you want to smoke it during the day, make sure you have nothing planned ahead at that time because the high from Black Diamond is remarkably sedating.
